Every year Andrea Mowry creates a design in preparation for the Rhinebeck Wool Festival, one of the world’s largest annual wool gatherings. Her 2025 design is the Ooey Gooey sweater!
Andrea says the inspiration for this sweater began with a beautiful modern rug with undulating curves. She began drawing up some colorwork charts, and immediately fell in love with the organic, bold shape of the yoke. After knitting through the first chart, Andrea was inspired to add some perfectly round polka dots, and the jammy colors and drippy motif just had her thinking “ooey gooey” as she was knitting - hence its name!
The Ooey Gooey sweater is worked from the top down, seamlessly. The sleeve stitches are put on hold while the body is finished, then to pick up those stitches again and complete the sleeves.
Skill level: Intermediate
For the Ooey Gooey, Andrea chose a 2ply pure wool yarn with a good grip to properly show off the graphic and bold colourwork. Building our yarn kits we immediately thought of Hillesvåg Tinde, a beautiful heathered yarn where the depth of colour is achieved by overdying the natural grey shades of the Norwegian Pelt Wool. The stitch definition is pure joy, and the garment will just turn softer and softer with every wear. Tinde is the perfect match for this design!

We've done the maths for you, so according to your size the Ooey Gooey Yarn Kit contains all the yarn you need to make your very own sweater, and it can be bought with or without the pattern. In addition you'll need circular needles size 3.5mm / US4 80 - 100cm / 32-40” length, circular needles size 2.75mm/US2 80 - 100cm / 32-40” length, and preferred needles in same sizes for smaller circumference. You'll also need stitch markers, stitch holders or scrap yarn for stitches left on hold, a darning needle for grafting and weaving in your ends.
