Garthenor’s mission is to promote and provide a variety of sustainable, organic & British yarns in an ecologically responsible way. Their aim is to help secure the future of British organic agriculture and the British textile industry. All the wool you’ll see under the Garthenor name have been certified to global organic standards.

Garthenor started in the 1990s, with wool produced from their own sheep. Since then they expanded faster than their flock, and now they buy raw fleeces from around the UK directly from the farmer – no middle man, which means all Garthenor wool is fully traceable from sheep to hank.

Garthenor's artisan yarns are produced from wool sourced directly from the finest certified organic flocks in the UK, and are carefully blended to produce deep, heathery, and also duotoned shades in a wonderful palette.

Garthenor Preseli is a 4ply/fingering yarn suitable for practical wear but also for that one very special heirloom piece. It is sturdy with a gorgeous stitch definition, still very soft and shiny with a little lustre. A blend of Polwarth, Romney and Hebridean, Preseli is the softest Garthenor yarn ever. The yarn has a brilliant grip making it a good choice for colourwork projects. To create the subtle, complex pair of bases that make up Preseli, they're mill-blended as tops before spinning. By blending this way, the result is a smooth, even top that keeps the deep grey blend, perfect for heathery tones once dyed.
