Plötulopi is a traditional Icelandic yarn, often seen used for the iconic yoked sweaters. Sold in a wheel, it is an unspun roving that has no twist to it. Originally they were spun by the knitter before working with them, combining a few threads together depending on the desired thickness. Eventually knitters realized that it could be knit with directly off the wheel for a lightweight fabric. Due to its unspun nature it is quite delicate in its raw form, so requires a delicate hand while working with it, and probably doesn't make the best travel project or something that will be thrown around while being worked on. However, the final fabric is quite strong when knitted up. It has a light airy quality while maintaining the sturdy warmth expected of an Icelandic yarn. The yarn can be knit up singly, or held double or triple for more substantial fabrics. Swatching is especially recommended to see the fabric and gauge.
