Workshop with Karie Westermann – Nordic Knitting - Saturday 30th November
Knit with attitude we are ridiculously excited about inviting the knitting wonder that is Karie Westermann to teach here in our little corner of the knitting universe.
Karie Westermann is a knitwear designer and tutor working across the UK and Europe. Her client list includes Rowan Yarns, Edinburgh Yarn Festival, Oslo Strikkefestival, Malabrigo, Blacker Yarns and Eden Cottage Yarns. Karie also regularly appears in knitting magazines and podcasts. She is an experienced and sought-after tutor with more than 15 years' experience teaching at all levels.
This full day workshop will introduce you to the many, varied knitting traditions of Scandinavia and the Nordic region. Together with Karie, you will explore Icelandic, Faroese, Norwegian and Danish knitting heritage as you knit colourwork 'the Nordic way'.
We'll discuss authentic colour choices and regional differences in colourwork among other things. You'll be working a wrist warmer pattern on the day, try two-handed colourwork, troubleshoot your colourwork techniques, and you will also get a chance to look at Karie's gorgeous samples.
Experience: Intermediate - you need to be comfortable knitting in the round and be able to follow an easy colourwork chart
• 2 colours of DK yarn (wool or wool-blend), 50g of one, 25g of the other.
• 4mm needles (we'll be working both back & forth as well as in the round with small circumference - bring your preferred needles for this)
• Tapestry needle
• 2 stitch markers (optional)
