Natural Dyeing with Hey Mama Wolf – Eco-Print on Sock Blanks and Painting Yarn - Sunday 4th November
In this 5 hour class Jule of Hey Mama Wolf will teach the basic principles on how to dye wool yarn with natural dyes. We will discuss what a mordant is and how and when to apply it. She will show us which plants and other natural materials can be used as a dye. We will talk about light- and washfastness and all kinds of ecological impacts that dyeing may have.
After the theoretical part of the workshop we will move on to make an eco print / bundle print on a sock blank. A sock blank is a knitted piece of sock yarn from which you can knit another item after dyeing. We will bring beautiful colour on it using the eco print technique. We will then handpaint sockyarn with plant dyes to make a colorful variegated yarn. Each participant takes home the sock blank and the painted yarn they've dyed in class.
All material is included. You can bring plant material that you gathered if you like! The class is suitable for beginners.
