Colour Inspiration for WestKnits MKAL 2024

It's MKAL season! Stephen West has become famous for his fun, engaging and often surprising yearly mystery knit alongs. This year we're doing Go Go Dynamo! A clue is released every week for four weeks seeing you on a journey of texture, colour, shape and construction. Often challenging you with new stitches or techniques, but fear not they are all well explained and you have the community of the MKAL to ask for advice if you get stuck.

We know it's going to be a large shawl and one that takes two colours of a 4ply weight yarn. 200g of a main colour and 200g of a contrast. As we don't know what it's going to look like we have to have a bit of faith in our yarn choices. My thoughts are to always go with colours you love, that way you are going to enjoy the process and the outcome. As it is just two colours I'm guessing the design relies on a bit of contrast between the colour choices, though I do enjoy a subtle contrast. Variegated yarns are also a possibility for what he describes as a 'painterly effect'. Intrigued? I sure am.

We have had a massive delivery of Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply which I think will be absolutely perfect for this. Vivacious 4Ply is hand dyed in Peru to Fyberspates' specifications. Spun to perfection, it is a high twist superwash Merino, which gives a soft and light weight multipurpose yarn suitable for those lush favourites, still it is hard wearing and will handle being worn again and again. With its amazing stitch definition, this yarn is perfect for showing off lace and cabled knits. In true Westknits style he also suggests a 'Mohair Dare' so why not add in some Fyberspates Cumulus to satisfy those fluffy cravings.
