Inspiration for Mazurka by Becci Pamely-Bast

We love Riverknits and we had a great time catching up at Unravel a couple of weekends ago with Becci and Markus who are behind the Riverknits Chimera we stock. Becci was wearing the most amazing jumper knit in Chimera that was catching everyones attention. That jumper is the Mazurka by Becci herself and the pattern has now been released. Get your needles at the ready because this is one you will want to knit.

Mazurka is knit in a combination of two colours of Chimera paired with a solid. The rippling texture of the design is created through a combination of slip-stitch cables which is heightened by the beautiful marling of the Chimera. Chimera is a hand dyed British Bluefaced Leicester yarn where each ply is separately dyed before being twisted. You can read more about the yarn when we introduced it in 2022 in this blog post.

Knit from the top down in bands of three colours and starting with a circular yoke. The design is named after a European folk dance in 3-time that is echoed in the dancing stitches that step over each other. There is an option for a unique central bust shaping which works with the flow of the design and this is all finished off with a smart split hem. A beautiful seamless jumper that is a celebration of colour and texture.

There are so many colour possibilities for this design as Chimera has so many colours in it. Choose something contrasting or complimentary and let the slip stitches blend the overall design together. You need two contrast colours of Chimera and one main colour. We think that Black Elephant Wensleydale would pair perfectly adding a rich base for the Chimera colours to pop. Of course I couldn't resit putting some colour combos together to get you inspired.
