We are extremely excited to introduce Triskelion Yarn. Triskelion is the product of yarn dyer Caerthan Wrack and we have two of his bases and his gorgeous intensive hand balms. We met and got to know Caerthan from various yarn shows we attended and have had great fun hanging out after a busy day and putting the world to rights, bonding over a pint of beer.

Triskelion Yarn is based at Pistyll Gwyn Farm in Carmarthenshire in West Wales. All Caerthan's yarns are kettle-dyed using just single-pigment dyes. This creates rich monochrome colours with a subtle hint of variation that is characterful of this type of dyeing process.

Below I take a closer look at the different yarns and some project suggestions.

Triskelion Yarn Mama Qucha Sock

Mama Qucha Sock - An 100% wool, nylon free sock yarn. This sturdy 4ply yarn is made from 100% Peruvian Highland Wool and comes from a Merino/Corriedale crossbred sheep. Though not high twist it is still strong enough for sturdy socks. The yarn is smooth and plump, as it's not as soft as the superfine merino the fleeces would normally go to waste. Chester Wool, where Caerthan sources his yarn have bought up the clip and given the local farmers a source of income they wouldn’t otherwise have had. That is not to say this yarn isn't soft, its squishy and bouncy and still great worn next to the skin. Toothy enough for great colourwork and gives fabulous definition to cables and textural stitches.

Mama Qucha Sock gets its name from the Mayan goddess and protector of the oceans: Mama Qucha. Through this yarn Caerthan donates a portion of his profit to ocean-based environmental charities and marine conservation.

We have introduced Mama Qucha Sock in both 50g and 20g skeins. Perfect for adding contrast details to socks or cuffs.

Lets have a look at some project inspiration for this yarn:

Twisty Bois Socks (ravelry link) by Niklas Heed - These socks are alive with twisting cables. Perfect for showing of Mama Qucha Sock's properties. A fun knit for those who like cables. Whats more is you can indulge in a little contrast colour toe and heel.

Mauri Tau Pullover (ravelry link) by Francoise Danoy - This simple jumper has a striking slip stitch yoke. By using simple to work stitches you create a a pleasing and unusual design. The purl row and slip stitches would have great definition in Mama Qucha Sock and you can have fun with some contrasting or complimentary colours.

Mona 4ply - A beautiful blend of 50% Baby Alpaca, 25% Silk and 25% Linen. This 4ply yarn has drape, texture and a soft smooth feel in the hand. Each of these fibres bring their own characteristics to the blend. The alpaca and silk have a softness and drape, the linen has a fibrous quality which gives this yarn depth and character. A cooler fibre blend which would be ideal for summer outfits and with a drape that would make gorgeous shawls. The undyed linen in the blend compliments Caerthan's sophisticated kettle-dyed colour range.

Each skein is 100g, 4ply weight and is 400m.

Nyah (ravelry link) by Tamy Gore. This simple shawl is an ideal lightweight spring/summer layer. Easy garter stitch is edged in a pleasing lace border. Whats more is you could knit this in just one skein of Mona 4ply.

Este (ravelry link) by Justyna Lorkowska. This simply shaped summer top is finished off with a pleasing shoulder lace detail. A great light layer for the warmer months and would drape beautifully in Mona 4ply.

For all those dry crafters hands we have a treat in the form of Triskelion Yarn Intensive Hand Balm. Handmade by Caerthan with all natural ingredients.

Gently scented with essential oils. Triskelion Yarn use argan, jojoba, flax and hempseed oils in their intensive hand balm, all of which are non-comedogenic and won’t block your pores. A small amount of beeswax and Shea Butter gives you a decent barrier without having ‘skid’ on application. These are rounded off with a touch of panthenol pro-vitamin B5, which improves the elasticity and moisture retention of your skin, and acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant.

We have introduced three scents: English Lavender, a classic floral scent of lavender. Javan Vetiver, a smokey and earthy scent. Red Mandarin, a zesty citrus scent of orange.
