Knit with attitude and Of Cabbages & Kings are delighted to invite you to take part in workshops and events at our Stoke Newington shop. We have a welcoming, well lit and comfortable workshop area, separated from the sales area, offering space to focus and be inspired. We collaborate with several independent art/craft teachers, if you are interested in hosting a workshop yourself don't hesitate to contact us.

Our One-to-One session is very popular as it can be perfectly customised to your wishes and needs. Whether you want to learn the basics, are about to tackle new techniques, or you happen to find yourself in a complete knitting disaster. We are here to help! Monthly Knit Night

Join us for a social evening of knitting and fun. Bring your wool and needles, and let us knit together. All skill levels welcome! We’ll provide wine and snacks, and we’ll offer 10% off all yarns on the evening.

Learn to Knit

Learn to knit at Knit with attitude! This is the course that will teach you everything you will need to know to make your very own snood or scarf. Knitting is a thousand year old craft that has influenced countless designers and makers in that time. Despite all this, the basics of knitting are very simple and easy to master.
In 2 classes you will learn how to cast on, the basics of knitting, how to cast off and finish your knitting. You will start a snood or a scarf in the first class, and learn how to finish it in the second class. You will need 200g of a chunky yarn and 12mm needles. All supplies for the class are available at the shop for 10% off when purchased on the day or when signing up for the class.

Knit a Hat

Have you conquered the rectangle, gotten the swing of scarves and blankets? Knitting in a tube, or in the round, is the next goal in your knitting journey. Knitting a hat is a perfect way to learn this next step and open your project possibilities. In this class you will learn to cast on with double pointed needles, knit and purl in the round, basic decreasing, all while learning to follow a pattern. Students should be confident with knit, and have ideally purled as well, though not neccessary. 
Supplies for the hat are included (except the pompom), and students will also recieve 10% off supplies when purchased on the day.

When:  Wednesdays March 22nd and 29th, 2017 6:30 - 8:30pm
Fee: £78 - includes a ball of Erika Knight Maxi Wool and a set of 8mm double pointed needles

Course - Sundays March 19th, 26th and April 2nd 2017

Norwegian Colourwork Mittens

Over the course of three weeks we will cover stranded knitting (colourwork), knitting in the round, thumb gusset, left- and right-leaning increases and decreases, continental knitting, the old Norwegian cast-on, and magic loop (the latter three are optional), by knitting a classic Norwegian Selbu mitten. 

All three classes will be taught by London-based Norwegian knitter, PhD-student, lecturer and tutor Eli "Ellie" Leistad, who specialises on Norwegian mittens and colourwork in general.

Skill level: Basic knitting knowledge is required to partake in this course, but it is also suitable for more advanced knitters. 

Materials required: 2 x 50g skeins of Excelana DK of different colours (or equivalent DK yarn of your choice) - 1 x 80cm circular needle (or DPNs) of a size to achieve a 24 stitches per 10 cm gauge (generally 3-4.5mm) Please bring your own or get what you need in the shop on the day at 10% discount.

Beginner's Guide to Crochet - Granny Squares

Curious about crochet? Then this is the workshop for you! You will learn all the basic stitches that you need as an introduction to Crochet. You will then pick from a selection of patterns to make yourself either one of 3 different shaped scarves or to start on your very own Granny Square blanket! Absolute beginners welcome. This workshop is taught by Sanna King; London based designer/maker aka Sannapanda, and an amazingly wellliked tutor. “Sanna is a brilliant teacher – very patient and clear with her instructions. So nice to learn new skills!” Following feedback we have extended this to a 3-hour session plus tea and biscuits for sustenance! We will provide some materials and hooks for you to use while you practice the stitches, and then a 10% discount in the shop for you to get started on your project!

Knitting Project Class

Are you looking for a boost to your knitting skills in a group setting? This project class takes place over 4 weeks, with 2 hours of instruction per week. Students will bring their own projects to work on with an instructor in a self-guided but structured setting. It is the perfect opportunity to tackle a larger project such as a first sweater, or master a few smaller projects. Students will be guided through their own projects, as well as learn off their fellow students.This class is highly recommended if you have a specific pattern or project that you want to work through, as well as for more general learning. 

Each student's material requirements will vary. Please come with an idea of what you would like to work on. Guidance for choosing a pattern can be provided int the class. Materials bought on class days are 10% for students.

The Small Print:

Courses are payable in full on booking. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking at minimum two weeks before the event to receive a full refund. For later cancellations, your place needs to be filled by another student for a refund to be issued. We reserve the right to cancel a class in unusual circumstances. We try to avoid this wherever possible, but sometimes it cannot be avoided. In this situation, of course, a full refund will be given. We're sorry, but Knit with attitude/Of Cabbages & Kings can not be held responsible for weather conditions or any other situations that are out of our control.
